Life On Marzj Expo Cell is a small exhibition space and extension of the Life On Marzj AR Shop. This former prison cell is dedicated exclusively to digital art — from AR, VR, and MR to video installations, light and sound works, and video projections. Every month features a new artist exploring creative approaches within these media.
Current Exhibition: Black Whisker Cult — Are You Fine?
Video artist Black Whisker Cult (Kay de Vries) presents Are You Fine? — a video installation that immerses you in a kaleidoscope of imagery and sound inside the historic cell. The work explores how ‘being trapped’ can extend beyond physical space — from work and relationships to cultural obligations and digital consumption. It asks: Are you fine… or just numb? as you are drawn in by looping visuals and melancholic background sound.
This exhibition runs 1–28 February and is part of the Luna Festival in Leeuwarden — a major media art festival engaging artists and audiences around contemporary themes and experiences.
Entrance is free, but if you’d like to support Life On Marzj and help fund better equipment — like VR headsets and tech tools — you can donate here
All artworks in the Expo Cell connect to the theme of “prison” in the broadest sense — whether through inspiration from the building and cell itself or as a wider concept in society and experience.
We will be hosting several Open Calls in the future for artists to apply. Follow the Life On Marzj Instagram to stay updated!
